There's a lot of archery that happens at our house. There's a big bag stuffed with rags for a target and lately there is an old shower curtain hung from the trees as a back stop for wayward arrows (or at least to slow them down) and there's two guys who have made their own bows and one neighbor that comes over to shoot with them, too -- she in a tunic and boots -- and then there is the Arrow Girl who is sent in after all the arrows are shot to pull them out of the target and out of the grass and bring them back to the big guys.

So there's Em shooting his bow. (When Bea was littler she would shout out, "Shoot de Bow!" which none of us can stop exclaiming even though she can say it perfectly plainly now.) Please note that he's whistling. This child whistles all. the. time. Look here and see what I mean.


Here's Lucian. He likes to shoot de bow. He's pretty good, too, almost as good as Emmett. Maybe with a little more practice...


And here's Arrow Girl. She knows not to leave the line of fire until the field is clear and she's told it's safe. Then she takes off as fast as she can and collects the arrows and she knows to then walk back holding them properly -- clasped in two hands in front of her held out horizontal. Not like scissors, that could be bad. Nope, they must be held out in two hands right in front. She's...
